9 things that are truly makes a person a Singaporean!

What do you think are the 9 things that makes a person a truly Singaporean? Since August is the month of Singapore's Birthday, I decided to do a post on this. I am pretty sure all of us have different definition for this, and here's mine!

1. English, Singlish I mean!

2. The 3 "K"s:

Kiasu, Kiasi, Kaypoh (Literally means Afraid of losing, afraid of dying and Inquisitive)

3. Ability to speak multi-languages!

I believe almost all of the Singaporean know at least 3 different languages. English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil, Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka, Japanese, Korean and the list just simply goes on! Hey, that's a great trait that we have!

4. Hanging Laundry on Bamboo Poles

I always joke around with my cliques and friends that those undergarments that are hung outside are "flags", we get to see all kinds and shapes and even size of the "flags"! Some appears new, some are well-used. (Okay, is understandable if you don't get my drift. It is an insider joke ㅋㅋ)

And that I was told since I was young not to walk below those "flags", especially if it is from the ladies, as it will bring down your luck. How many of you have been told of this myth before too? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

5. "See you at XXX MRT Station!"

Because MRT Stations are usually within walking distances and one will not be lost taking the train to the destination, hence it soon become a convenient waiting place for people.

6. Chilling/Hanging around at the Void deck area

Those were the days when I used to chill out/hang around at the void deck with friends. All of us will be sitting around the marble/cement tables and talk nonsensical things with friends.

Feeling nostalgic about the good old days.. Don't lie! I know you do too, at least once right?! :)

7. Flag Day

Honestly, I was pretty much involved in quite a number of flag day activation during my schooling days. I remembered that I would spent the almost the whole of my Saturday on those and I find it actually really meaningful.

I was in those event clubs when I was schooling back then and it always makes me feel that there are still humanity whenever someone donate their money into the tin. Oh! We were all given a tin each and all of us would be competing whose tin will be the heaviest at the end of the day!

At the end of the day, all the sweats and pursuing were worth it, all for the charity and for the needy. It really makes me guilty for now that I am no longer active and playing my part on all these anymore...

8. The legendary Great Singapore Workout

Anyone still remember this? This is the legend! A proud workout produced by Singapore! A combination of all the ethnics' dances. Don't lie, we all have done this before, didn't you? :P

9. Kallang Wave

'Nuff say, Singapore's special trademark. And a spectacular human wave will appear upon saying the magic words. Hehe!
